-Liesel's brother affected Liesel because he died. She now would not have anyone her age to talk to in the Hubermann's home. -Liesel's mother affect Liesel because she gave her daughter up for adoption. Liesel cried before saying goodbye because she knew she would never be able to see her mother again. -Frau Heinrich affected Mr. and Mrs. Hubermann because she brought Liesel to their home. They would now need to take care of someone. -Frau Heinrich affected Liesel because she brought her to her new home. She will be living there for awhile. -The grave diggers affected Liesel because they buried her brother. The diggers had a book on instructions on how to bury people. Liesel picked it up. This was the beginning of her book stealing. -Sister Maria affected Liesel because Liesel was always talking too much. Sister Maria would punish her by making her sit in the back of the classroom, and she would sometimes give Liesel a good spanking.
2. I disagree with the fact that Leisel's foster mother, Rosa Hubermann, swears too much. This influences the words Liesel says. If Rosa did not swear as much or not at all, I believe that Rosa wouldn't be as likely to swear. I also disagree with the fact that her mother put her in foster care. I believe that her mother could have not had enough money or resources to raise her children, but I feel that she could have worked a little harder to keep them, or she could have given them to a friend, sister, or brother.
3. I have heard numerous people's perspectives of World War ll. Some of the books I have read focus on one perticular aspect of the War. I have learned how life was for Anne Frank and other Jewish people. I have learned about Peal Harbor and the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. All of these show the horrific side of the War. None of these have shown how people interacted with one another and how people could manage to stay positive during the War. In this story, I have found that some people in The Book Thief live their life as if nothing bad was going on around them. Children still played outside and went to school. I believe that this is because they cannot grasp the idea of what horrific events are going on. The children do not know why they cannot play with certain people or why they have "safe eyes." But the adults do understand the significance of what Hitler is doing. The adults know that they are in danger if they have dark hair or eyes of another color than blue. They are precautious of what they say in public and who they associate with.
Think how hard it would be for an adult to act as if nothing is happening in front of his or her child because as the parent, you do not want to alarm your child. Yet you know that you are living with danger all around you. A horrific time in our history!
